If you have a cat, it’s a good idea to get it microchipped. And you can do it for free if you live in Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas or Jefferson counties in Colorado.
A microchip implant is a small electronic information chip the size of a grain of rice placed under the cat’s skin between the shoulder blades. If the cat is found by animal control or taken to a shelter, workers can scan the chip to get a registration number and track down the cat’s owner.
The Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society, Dumb Friends League and participating members of the Metro Denver Shelter Alliance have launched the chip your cat program to provide 150,000 free microchips and lifetime registration for cats residing in the six county Denver metro area.
